Frequently Asked Questions

The term neurological impairment encompasses a group of brain and spinal cord disorders that relate to the central nervous system. A neurological impairment or disability may involve speech, motor skills, vision, memory, muscle actions or learning abilities. Common diagnoses are cerebral palsy, epilepsy, brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Tourette’s Syndrome. Neurological impairment can also be a result of an allergic reaction, a near-drowning, birth injury, genetic disorder or accident.

The Help A Little One (H.A.L.O.) Foundation will review requests from nursing homes, families, guardians, professionals and community organizations. Approved items have included adaptive tricycles, wheelchair lifts, enrichment programs at nursing homes, transportation/ admission/accommodation to participate at community events and technology for individual growth.

H.A.L.O. does not fund building maintenance, hospital equipment, medical treatment or other expenses covered by insurance or public health, welfare and social service agencies.

The Foundation provides financial support for family and small group vacations or outings for residents of pediatric nursing homes.

H.A.L.O. Holidays enable the nursing home staffs to provide full medical support and to facilitate bonding with family members, while incorporating educational components.

H.A.L.O.'s gifts to pediatric nursing homes are focused in New England, but H.A.L.O. will consider requests from individual families across the United States.
